The diamond cutting process involves using a CNC (Computer Numerical Control) lathe equipped with a diamond-tipped tool to precisely remove a thin layer of metal from the wheel’s surface. As a result, it creates a shiny, reflective finish.

The Diamond Cutting Process

Diamond cutting of alloy wheels is a specialised process that enhances the aesthetics of alloy wheels. This is because it creates a polished, mirror-like finish on specific parts of the wheel. The process is commonly used on luxury and high-performance vehicles to give the wheels a more premium appearance. During the process, our trained technicians will:

  • Firstly, we prepare and inspect the wheels. We clean them thoroughly to remove any dirt, grime or brake dust. In addition, a full inspection will be conducted on the cracks, bends or deep scratches.
  • Next, we conduct a stripping and coating removal. This step ensures that the wheel's surface is ready for machining without any interference from previous coating.
  • Then, CNC lathe machining takes place. The wheel is mounted on a specialised CNC lathe machine designed for diamond cutting. It must be securely positioned to ensure accurate cutting. During the machining process, a precise, computer-controlled lathe with diamond-tipped cutting tools removes a fine layer of metal from the surface. The CNC machine then follows a pre-set program to cut specific parts of the wheel, such as the face or spokes, with extreme precision.
  • Final cleaning and inspection. After cutting, the wheel is cleaned and inspected again to remove any metal shavings or debris from the machining process.
  • A clear coat application. This means that a protective clear powder coating or lacquer is then applied to the wheel
  • The last step is polishing and quality control. If required, the wheel will undergo additional polishing to ensure it has optimum shine.
